Burner Fire Control is featured on the cover of the September 2026 issue of International Fire Protection (IFP), highlighting our experience in the design and manufacture of self-contained fire suppression equipment for demanding industrial, offshore and specialized applications.

Issue 107 features a Burner Fire Control 250-gallon stored-energy Compressed Air Foam System (CAFS) prominently on the magazine's cover. The issue also includes our technical article, “High-performance suppression: The role of self-contained Compressed Air Foam (CAF) equipment in Aerospace and Defence (A&D) fire response.”

Self-Contained Fire Suppression for Aerospace & Defence Applications

Aerospace and defence facilities can present complex fire-protection challenges. Aircraft hangars, helicopter landing areas, launch facilities and other environments involving fuel handling can expose personnel and critical infrastructure to significant flammable-liquid fire hazards.
The IFP article examines the role of Compressed Air Foam Systems in addressing these hazards and explains how properly aspirated CAF produces a stable foam blanket designed to suppress flammable vapors, adhere to surfaces and provide protection against radiant heat.

Why Self-Contained CAFS?

One of the primary subjects explored in the article is the value of self-contained, stored-energy fire suppression.   Unlike systems dependent upon facility water supplies, pumps or electrical power, Burner Fire Control's self-contained CAFS equipment uses stored-energy gas to pressurize and discharge the premixed agent. This allows the system to provide dedicated suppression capability without relying on external water hookups, mechanical pumps or electrical lines during the response. That independence can be particularly important in high-hazard applications where fire protection equipment may be required to remain operational even when surrounding infrastructure has been compromised.

CAFS and Twin-Agent Fire Suppression

The article also explores another important approach to high-hazard fire protection: combining Compressed Air Foam with dry chemical suppression.  In a twin-agent configuration, dry chemical provides rapid flame knockdown while the expanded CAF blanket helps suppress flammable vapors, cool the hazard and reduce the potential for re-ignition. The article specifically discusses potassium bicarbonate (Purple-K) dry chemical and the complementary roles of the two suppression technologies.  This combination can provide an engineered fire-protection solution for applications involving complex Class B fuel hazards where both rapid flame knockdown and continued vapor suppression are important considerations.
