CAFS are quickly becoming the preferred method for fighting fires. Their ability to create a more dense foam allows them to penetrate fires more deeply and adhere to vertical and horizontal surfaces better than traditional methods. This makes CAFS a more superior choice for firefighting.
All About CAFS
Compressed Air Foam Systems (CAFS) are foam system which has the added ability to inject compressed air into the foam solution to generate a product referred to as “compressed air foam.” This type of foam has a much tighter, more dense, bubble structure than plain water or standard foam solutions.
This bubble structure allows the foam to adhere to vertical and horizontal surfaces, as well as penetrate fires deeper before the bubbles are broken down, allowing the latent water to be more effective.
Compressed Air Foam Systems are effective because they attack all three sides of the fire triangle: oxygen, fuel, and heat. CAFS works by smothering the fire with a “foam blanket”, preventing oxygen from combining with fuel, which in turn prevents the fuel from igniting or continuing to burn. It diminishes the heat by insulating (using the trapped air within the bubble structure) and the bubbles reflect radiant heat, thus preventing excess heat from adding to the fire.
How CAFS Are Used
CAFS can be used in a variety of ways, but is most commonly used in portable extinguishers, truck-mounted units, and fixed installations.
Burner designs and manufactures our full line of Compressed Air Foam Systems, and have done so in-house for over 30 years. This allows us to offer a level of customization that is unmatched in the industry.
There are several standard models and configurations available. Each system can be modified to meet customer specifications. We also have the capability to design and build completely customized systems to client specifications.
